Age spots, also known as liver spots or solar lentigines, are flat, dark spots that appear on the skin, typically in sun-exposed areas. They are a common skin change associated with aging and prolonged sun exposure, usually appearing as tan, brown, or black spots. While generally harmless, they can be a cosmetic concern for some.
How they develop:
Sun exposure, particularly ultraviolet (UV) light, triggers the skin to produce more melanin as a protective measure.
Over time, this increased melanin production can lead to the formation of age spots.
